| Oh apparition! One of the aspects of Rowling's amazing world that interest me the most! It' d be so cool to be able to do it!!!
I immediately thought of how this could be used for the purpose of the story when you mention it and can't wait to read about that again,, which was fun!
I really love the fact you put in Severus' birthday this way and his reactions to seeing the students reactions. I know it seems wicked of Dumbledore, but it really presents Severus as so much more human to the students, which again helps them respect and accept him !But oh! He did cock it up a bit by not telling Hermione, though I am sure it helps him see how important these things are to your significant other!!!
And it was really sweet to see Ginny interested in wishing him well on his birthday, it shows she starts to see him truly as a friend and not just tolerating him because of his relationship with Hermione! Author's Response: LOL Yeah, AD was a bit of a jackass to Snape, knowing just how awkward it would make him feel to make a big deal about his birthday, but you're so right about it being just another sliver of humanity for the kids to see and to hopefully influence them in his favour later. | Yay! They're not limited to hair-dressing time! Although I'm slightly disappointed that Albus warned him against terrorizing the students during patrol duty, heh. Still! I read another fanfic where Snape gets the order to teach Harry Occlumency on his birthday -- fits with canon timelines -- not that anyone remembered it was his birthday -- so this is simply fair turnabout, no? And I loved that Hermione's angry sense of betrayal and Snape's bewilderment were such a good mirror of the Harry/Cho boy-girl cultural divide. The reader, of course, knows instantly why Hermione is so upset. Ah, Snape's adolescent initiation into dating. Don't worry, you two; Dumbledore just gave you permission to have a make-out, er, make-up session! Author's Response: "Snape's adolescent initiation into dating." Bingo!!! Dumbledore walked them through the dance again, smiling to himself at the way the students kept casting disconcerted glances at their Potions Master sitting so casually above them. ”Now that I think about it, it’s so nice to see the dear boy loosening up. He finally seems to have relaxed this year. It’s quite refreshing…”Oh, he wouldn't find it so refreshing if he only knew all the details, I'm thinking. And what is Hermione so upset about? He didn't tell her it was his birthday. She must realize that, as deprived as his life has been, he's never learned to think his birthday was any sort of big deal. | I can't believe they are having trouble so soon after making up! I completely understand why Hermione is upset, but somehow, it makes sense that Snape wouldn't care that much about his birthday. I can't wait to see how Snape uses his Apparition priveledges to his advantage... Author's Response: Yeah, they're on a roller coaster as far as relationships go.
