| You know, with all that unresolved sexual tension you are building up between the two of them, their first time will - by inevitable necessity - be a complete and utter failure, because it just cannot ever measure up to all those fantasies and expectations they are building up. *grins*
Also, while I truly appreciate the idea of postponing sexual contact in a teacher/student relationship, I fail to see the big difference between what they have already done and intercourse. They've been mostly naked with each other. They've brought each other to a climax more than once.
Don't get me wrong - I LOVE this kind of tension in your story, the allure of forbidden love is wonderful, the constant pull of desire ... You are writing that very well. And the idea of waiting with anything that's less than appropriate until Hermione graduates does make sense - only that's not what they are doing. Additionally, I'm considering that both Severus and Hermione are very intelligent adults who don't have the religious background that causes some Muggles to place such importance on the "first time".
In wide parts of Europe virginity is generally rather regarded as an inconvenience to be got rid off at an appropriate, safe and comfortable opportunity. Add to that the fact that Snape was a teenager with one foot in the Muggle world during the wild and free 70ies. Somehow this just doesn't add up for me.
I guess by now I'm kind of hoping you'll have them falling off the chastity wagon before Hermione's graduation, because I would find that much more believable.
However, please be assured that I'm happily overlooking what I'm pondering in this comment as I'm reading along and that I enjoy the story just the way it is. I just thought you might be interested in a critical opinion.
Author's Response: You're not the only one to question the "not going all the way" thing in this fic. *huge grin* But, at this point, since they HAVE done so much else (and will clearly do more, LOL), it's merely a matter of Severus keeping his word. Like he tells Hermione, he doesn't want to be that person. It's a trifling matter of principle to him, and trying to keep from crossing the line will definitely lead to creative work-arounds. *snerk* As for getting rid of one's virginity... Hermione's working on that in quite a matter-of-fact, practical way, much like we might expect from someone like her. ;) I adore thoughtful reviews that give me an opportunity to initiate a dialogue about what I write and why. Then, grinning like a child that he didn’t need to mind his manners in front of anyone else, he pulled a drumstick off the chicken and tucked in, fingers and lips shining with grease.Oh, I love this! It reminds me of the wonderful character Sinclair in the otherwise awful Close My Eyes. It's such a treat to think of Severus losing that iron control and just enjoying things like food, a beautiful day... being in love with Hermione. Good chapter. (Although he's a sight more glib at telling her all about his first time with a girl than I'd have expected him to be!) Author's Response: Re: being glib-- Well, here we see a combination of things. One, there's the male ego wanting to make it clear that he's NOT A VIRGIN, and two, there's the extent to which he has relaxed and is willing to share with Hermione, which is indicative of the depth of feeling he has for her. ... | I am so glad that Hermione wasn't mad at Snape for coming into her room! I was sure something bad would happen. I'm too pessimistic. Or perhaps it is the title of this chapter?
