All right, so we're all in agreement that it's Regulus, with some space for reasonable doubt.
Regulus Alphard Black...eech, what a horrible name...
Er sorry. It would be a DE because it refers to Tom as the Dark Lord and we only know that the DEs and supporters do that. So it's a dead DE with the initials RAB... (like you said, Pace)... doesn't leave much room for thought, does it? |

I don't know about "Alphard," though... not much of an astronomy student, but aren't there any stars that start with an A?
And what's Sirius' middle name, anyway? |

Orion. His middle name is Orion. (I believe, that's what she said in one of the interviews, wasn't it?)
Alphard or whatever his uncle's name was. *shrug* |

| Or could it be two people? Two people are needed, as was shown by the fact that it required both Dumbledore and Harry to get to the pendant. So maybe its R AND B?? Though, I don't really know if I believe that... the note is written in the manner of "I" rather than "we". But surely whoever it was would have needed help? |

Hmm... a distinct possibility, especially in light of Dung's practically looting Grimmauld Place. And why would Harry inherit Kreacher, an individual he despises, if not for the convenience of the elf shedding light on things? Just a comment on JKR's style, that. I think Harry's ownership of Grimmauld Place will be significant in some way, although now that the Fidelius charm is gone, how will the place be protected?
That person brough up another point or two I hadn't considered regarding Legilimency. Ha... the Snape-is-on-the-side-of-good theory lives. |

My belief has been upped to 3%. Congratulations....erg, that's it, I'm going out to buy coffee, be back in a tick.
The ownership of Grimmauld Place is definitely something to consider. (Is Sirius even REALLY dead? A different dimension maybe? Sorry, that's OotP) |

I think it is Regulus also, and it definitely makes you wonder about the locket left in Grimmauld Place. Hopefully Mundungus didn't sell it off.
I also have to wonder about the significance of Dumbledore's comment to Draco that "you have no idea how well we can hide you." (Paraphrased, hubby has the book right now.) Makes you curious as to who Dumbledore has been hiding, so well that he'd be safe from Voldemort. |

| Just posted on WIKTTmisc but thought I'd say that Sirius' Uncle (and therefore Regulus' Uncle) was called Alphard. Regulus' middle name could be that of his uncle's. |

Was I the only one who even considered that the note could be fake? Another way for Voldemort to avoid getting killed? What better way... anyone who got that far would expect the significant Slytherin locket, but what if it IS the one Harry and Dumbledore found, and the note is just a way to think it's already destroyed?
I think that's very scary... and to be on the safe side, Harry should probably destroy the locket anyway. |

I hadn't thought of that, Lariff. It doesn't look like the real locket, but Voldie has magic up his sleeve -- he could disguise it.
On the whole, I think it's genuine. But you're right, that's something to consider. |

I also think that R.A.B. is Regulus and that the locket is or was stored at 12 Grimmauld Place. On page 116 of OP, Harry & co. found a "heavy locket that none of them could open," when cleaning cabinets in the drawing room. Of course, if Mundungus nicked the locket, who knows where it could be now.
It is this reference that really makes me think inspite of it being obvious R.A.B stands for Regulus Black.
