This is a stray thought of mine.......

If Snape is still in his spy role-who is he passing on the information to now and would anyone believe what he's saying after him killing Dumbledore? Who is going to try and help him and Draco,if they are indeed the reason that Dumbledore sacrificed himself-or was A.D counting on Snape to protect both of them? Any ideas on this......

To quote my favorite old bat: "Act... that's it. I must act."

I believe that the time for gathering and passing information is over. The order is now without guidance (funny; reminds me somehow of the beheaded monster), without a leader. All that Snape can do, if he is still acting on Dumbledore's orders, is destroy or weaken the enemy from within.

The situation seems favorable, no? Bellatrix and most of the other DE do not trust Snape, but Voldemort does and that's the only person who's trust Snape truly needs (in either case). Also Bella hinted that Voldemort doesn't seem to confide into her the way he used to. See: Spinner's End; Snape asks Bella why she didn't ask Voldemort instead of himself. If Snape is still playing his part, this is an ideal situation to try and weaken the DE. If he's not - well, I guess then he could be making a nice 'career'.

Well supposing that Snape had acted on Dumbledore's orders and that this was something they had planned for, I hardly believe Dumbledore wouldn't have left a means to prove Snape's innocence to the Order. If he had planned for his death, which I believe he did, then he would certainly have a plan to make use of the situation. What would the point be, to have a spy so highly placed in Voldemort's army, and not be able to get information from him? It would also be ridiculous if the Order tried to eliminate Snape, not knowing that he was still on their side.
We'll just have to wait...

My mother and I have just come up with an interesting suggestion.

What if Snape and Dumbledore switched places, even from the beginning?

You don't KNOW if Dumbledore told Snape about the Horcruxes. It could be possible.

Eh.

If Snape is innocent, then I think that some point in the next book he is going to have to try and get in touch with Harry and explain things. It's true he could simply weaken the enemy from within, but he knows that Harry has to kill Voldemort. Actually, come to think of it - does he??

Wow, that brings a whole new light to Snape. I would rather he be dead instead of evil beyond redemption. ( I realize this is extreme but look at how sirius is alive and well in fanfiction) Don't bash me though, please.

HBP knocked me on my ass, let me tell ya. But it also has raised a lot of questions about Snape.

I personally think he is innocent. Maybe it's just denial, maybe it's just blind love for the man...but there it is.

The only problem is how he is going to prove it. I think even if he had concrete evidence that it was a plan that Dumbledore came up with to either, 1. Save Draco's soul; 2. Keep Snape in Voldemorts good graces; Harry would never believe him.

Out of all the characters in the story, Harry is my least favorite. He is always going off half-cocked, never believing that anybody other than himself is right. So even if Snape could prove his innocence to the entire Wizarding world, Harry would still want to kill him.

So it poses a problem to fan fic writers and fans alike. The only solution I can think of is perhaps Dumbledore left behind a memory of telling Snape to kill him and why. Or perhaps Snape has the memory stored somewhere, but then the question becomes...can you make up a memory and will the pensieve show it properly if it is made up? That is the theory I am working with for my fic so far. I'll have to run it by my beta though.

Hmmm questions, questions....

My least favorite character is Hermione. *growls* (Unless she's paired with Severus: he brings her down a notch or ten). Harry's not my favorite, either, but he's not my least liked.

It's possible! I would also rather be dead than evil beyond redemption. Hey, it's a 50/50 chance. I heard a few days ago that Jo was almost finished with book 7 and that she's missing a couple of chapters, the finishing touches, editing (and the title?). It'll probably be a year or two (but knowing her, 4, says Mum).

The idea of leaving behind a memory is also a good one.... did he tell Severus, Obliviate him, and then give him the pensieve with it? The pensieve in OotP? Maybe that's what Snape was looking at before the twins shoved Montague into the Vanishing Cabinet.

Aside from leaving a message or a pensieved memory to let Order members know what happened, has anyone considered that Dumbledore's portrait may have the answers? Sure, he was asleep when we first see him in what's now Minerva's office, but it seems a likely source.

I also do a lot of wondering about the whole phoenix/Dumbledore connection. Since a phoenix's claim to fame is resurrection, shouldn't we expect to see Dumbledore again - at least some version of him?

Just my knut's worth...

I keep forgetting about the stupid portrait. (Sorry, I get annoyed when I forget important details). Isn't it true that the portrait comes to life when someone dies? Or is that just a mistake on my part? Because if so, forget about Dumbledore being alive.

The Phoenix/Dumbledore theory is another interesting one. Since the phoenix flew away, maybe that's him forever in his Animagus form... hm.
