Yeah I thought about that to particularly in relation to a quote by Snape
(HPB p 562) "Blocked again, and again, and again until you learn to keep your mouth shut and your mind closed, Potter!"
Perhaps a nice little pointer from Snape re: the disasterous occulmency lessons and the importance of keeping your mind closed in battle? |

| Or else Snape was just really frustrated and annoyed that Harry never understood the importence of Occlumency... |

True, True...Alas I believe I am at the stage of serious over-analysis (as it seems we all are ). It is just so much more fun than applying for jobs...Wonder if Centrelink would accept over-analysis of Harry Potter as a worthwhile jobseeker activity? Nah I thought not...
But I digress - I do believe that the "close your mind" comment was definatly an important piece of advice (whether meant as advice by Snape or just thrown in the heat of the battle) that, lets hope, Harry takes on board for future battles... |

At first read, I totally agreed with the idea that Snape's teacherly confrontation w/ Harry at the end was important...
But then reading Bellatrix' similar confrontation with Harry in the end of the last book seemed to deflate that idea--she was "teaching" him about casting unforgivables in battle as well.
Now I'm just confused. |

I saw the incident with Bellatrix as her gloating about how good her Unforgiveables are compared to Harry's...
Bella seems like the type to do something like that, gloat in the face of her enemies. |

I see that as trying to teach potter a very valuable lesson, twofold:
Lesson 1: If you don't close your mind, your opponent can know what you're about to do, even if it's non-verbal
Lesson 2: (a bit more subtle) Have trust in Dumbledore. Dumbledore was the one who first suggested the Occlumency lessons etc. I think this is Snape's subtle way of saying that Dumbledore was behind all this, while not divulging it in front of the DEs present. It's also possibly his way of saying that unless he learns to trust Snape, he will be "blocked again, and again" in his endeavors to destroy LV. Unfortunalely, harry potter does not deal in subtleties. |

Of course, the big problem here is that we all know that Harry won't take the advice, if for no other reason than it came from Snape. Unless one of his friends decide to bring it up.
Verity, that was a good point about the reason Dumbledore won't give Harry his reasons for trusting Snape. I wonder what the would have happened if Dumbledore had continued Harry's Occlumency lessons? Then again Harry can't reveal what he doesn't know. Let's hope that the Boy Wonder gets it through his head, or Book 7 will be very short! |

Jo said in an interview that Harry would never get the hang of Occlumency, his emotions are just too close to the surface, he can't bottle them up. Draco is more of a natural. |
