My story, Ashen and Sober Skies over on Occlumency, has recently lost its beta. She was a lovely lady who, due to circumstances beyond our collective control, is unable to finish beta-reading this work. This is a shame, because (1) she is lovely and (2) eventually I would convince her to join Severus Snape fandom. She isn't really into it, actually, and I think my subject matter tended to be a little squicky for her.
Please go read it in its entirety before responding. As it sits, it is currently half done. It is written out to 22 chapters, with three more chapters in progress. It is outlined at 30ish chapters, not including epilogue.
I will be leaving for vacation on Aug-24, 2005, and will be returning Sept-9 - it is my hope to have the story finished by the time I get back, and thus will be able to do a big dump on whoever is my beta.
In terms of what I need for a beta:
1. Good, not merely decent, English skills. In general, I do not require overwhelming grammar picking, but someone who can catch my mistakes is appreciated.
2. General plot picking is appreciated, as long as we can maintain a rapport in terms of where we see this plot going. I would like to avoid Daytime Television-like scenarios being suggested for my plot. Because it is over two thirds written, half posted, and completely outlined, I know where my plot is, and where it's going.
3. Brit-picking is nice, not strictly necessary.
