It's hard on Snape, of course, and it ripples out to his family as well. I must admit that much of this story has been written with an eye toward what might happen in the Shrieking Shack. At the very worst, at least he doesn't leave his life unmourned and unloved. It is hard on Emily, for sure, but she doesn't have to deal with the teachers of the school so directly as her husband does.
