I think you did a great job writing about little Marcus. /M

Author's Response: Thank you.

Ha! I knew he wasn't over Lily! His wife can't really blame him for it though (in MY humble opinion). She should have known. Oh, well, that's me. Curious to see where you are taking all this. /M

Author's Response: Thank you! Actually, he was having such an awful day and so much was sort of swirling all around them that it truly came out of nowhere. Emily is not over Lily and this is the "proof" she's been looking for.

I wanted to wait until I composed myself to review, but the second reading left me sadder than the first. It's a lovely chapter.

Author's Response: Thank you. I knew you would be sad about this one. It made me so sad to write it.

That was a tough chapter to read, especially the first part. You've hit a place where most authors do not go in the death of the baby. I'm sure it was a bit comforting to them to actually be able to interact with Marcus before he died. That was very well done.

Author's Response: Thank you. It was hard when I realized that the story was taking me here, and I tried to make it easier on you all (and myself) by keeping this pregnancy in the background.

Well, he really messed up. He needs to think of a good way to really prove his love for her.

Author's Response: He did, but it wasn't a conscious thing in the least. If she hadn't felt so insecure about things, she probably could have let it go

And I thought my husband was stupid when I was pregnant. I'll have to check the dates in the previous chapters for due dates, but she's what 6 months or so along? That's too early. You've got me worried now.

Author's Response: Severus isn't thinking very well at the moment. He's been awake since sometime the night before, watching Voldemort commit mayhem, talking it over with Dumbledore, and being questioned by the Ministry. Meanwhile, Emily's due in the New Year and right now it's the first or second of November.

I have always wondered: if Voldemort knew about Severus' feelings for Lily, wouldn't that have given him a reason not to trust Severus? (I shouldn't ponder such questions at 11pm.) Night night.

Author's Response: I think it gives him MORE reason to trust Severus, because he all but promises to give Lily to Severus. It's the only reason he would give Lily the choice that saved Harry's life. At least in the pre-canon storyline. Voldemort tells us in DH that he thought he had smoothed it over, right before he killed himself with his own curse. Not a real clear thinker, that one. Of course my Severus doesn't want his family killed, which is pretty strong motivation. Thanks for the reviews!

Remember I said that I had a bad feeling about all this. It's definitely a very bad feeling! Poor Emily. /M

Author's Response: At it's most basic, the situation is that Severus is over Lily; Emily isn't quite yet.

And I always thought Voldy had brains. What would have given him the impression that she would happily hop into his bed? Gee!

Author's Response: I think he was using a charm that had an effect like amortentia. I also think that he completely has her number when he threatens her husband and less directly, her children.

It seems that Dumbledore already suspects that little Harry is now a Horcrux. Emily's musings as she cared for Harry were really poignant and made me quite sad. It was lovely to see more of what probably happened that night.

Author's Response: Maybe it's something JKR screwed up and didn't think through, but Dumbledore tells us in HBP that horcruxes didn't occur to him until the diary was destroyed, 12 years after the fateful night. Yet Dumbledore knew all along that Voldemort wasn't gone. I think he thought for many years that Harry was the ONLY horcrux. Meanwhile, it's a bit fanciful to think that Lily would want Emily to deliver her baby, but it adds something and it gives me something to use at the very end, too. Thanks for the review!
