Reviews for Two Sides Against the Middle

Does Dumbledore know what was asked of Emily? I think I need to go back and reread some chapters. What was the significance of the pain, was it something more than Braxton-Hicks contractions? Those can really hurt, but I notice you didn't explain the pain as a pre-labor contraction. So is ist tied to Voldemort? Great chapter, sorry for the annoying questions.

Author's Response: Dumbledore doesn't know yet (although maybe he suspects) what was asked of Emily. He's known Severus for 11 years by now though, including Occlumency lessons, and probably understands what Emily might fear about her husband's feelings for Lily. He also knows from talking to Severus that the Tedious One was going to try to save Lily because he thought Severus wanted her. Good eye on the other thing! I don't think I can say anything else about it. Well, I will say that it's not a BH contraction (I agree they can hurt). Thank you so much for the review!

Oh, I'm sorry I wan't content with a "and they lived happily ever after" ending a few chapters back. I hate to say this, it sounds so awful, but I hope Voldemort goes after the Potters soon.

Author's Response: How can they live happily ever after at this point? They can only live happily for the next ten minutes or so in that world. ;) We've reached the fall of 1981, so since I'm sticking to the cannon high points, the next few chapters will require you to know about those events. Thank you for the review!

A sad chapter. I can see Emily's reasons for not telling Severus what happened, but ultimately, I think she should have. The secret has put a wedge between them. Her misgivings about Lily could have been assuaged too.

Author's Response: Thank you! Yeah, people do stupid stuff sometimes. Fortunately and unfortunately, cannon events will intervene soon.

Well, his comment to Bella made a bit more sense with that revelation. Why doesn't he just make an heir with Lestrange. She's definitely more his type.

Author's Response: Thanks for the reviews! I don't know why he and Bella never had kids, but they never did. He seemed to have other uses for her, and she never did seem the motherly type. I think he's also under the (mistaken) impression that Emily will go along with his demands.

Of course, Sirius is there to help her. Lol. Actually, it was good for him to see how happy and in love Emily is. He still couldn't help himself in knocking Severus for 'hiding.' The nerve of some people!

Author's Response: Ah, well, I think that was a running jab of sorts, needling each other about being someplace safe. Emily is really clear on her feelings where Sirius is concerned, but it won't keep her from some remorse in a few months.

Geez, I go away for the weekend and I have a couple of chapters to look forward to. I should go more often! I liked Severus' handling of the Slytherins. If he hadn't shown them that they couldn't get away with what they had done, they would have walked all over him.

Author's Response: Thank you! If he's going to turn them into the mean, green machine that takes the House Cup seven years running right before Harry starts school and who knows how many times before that, then he's got to start with discipline. ;) Slughorn's the sort to leave it up to chance, I think.

Really nice. I assume things are going to get worse for our couple before Voldemort goes after the Potters.

Author's Response: Thanks for the review! Yes, things could get ugly for them before or while he's going after the Potters. He's capable of ruining more than one life at a time.

Sweet :-)

Author's Response: Thank you.

Hm, just once I'd like to treat students like that. Just once ... and then savour it for the rest of my teaching career. /M

Author's Response: Some teachers can do that without magically fixing student's tongues to the roof of their mouths. Half the kids in our neighborhood were scared of my mom; the other half had one of the other math teachers. She was just mom to me. :) Of course, times are different now. Thanks for the review!

I love how you gave him the Mark, but didn't give him the Mark. Your following of canon with your own little twists are greatly appreciated. It's unfortunate that he does have to get involved though. I appreciated Emily's thought that he was trading his own safety for theirs. Incredibly true.

Author's Response: History is full of these awful choices where one has to risk everything or watch it get taken away anyhow. Severus feels like he's gaining something, at least.
